2015 AD Hollindale Stakes Field Features Rudy

April 22nd, 2015

Exciting local hope Rudy is one of a capacity number of stayers making up the final field for the feature race on the first day of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, the AD Hollindale Stakes 2015 running at the Gold Coast Racecourse this weekend.

The Helen Page-trained Rudy hails from the Gold Coast but leading into the $358,000 Group 2 A.D. Hollindale Stakes (1800m), due to run as race eight at 3:52pm (AEST), the Red Dazzler four-year-old has had just the two previous starts at the track.

Apprentice Luke Tarrant has the ride on the up-and-comer, winner of the Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) last December, this weekend from a double digit barrier 12 draw.

Rudy comes off a brave fourth to the Chris Waller-trained Kermadec in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick from April 6 and will face four more from Waller’s ace Sydney stables in the Hollindale.

Waller prepared back-to-back Hollindale Stakes winners with Metal Bender (2010) and My Kingdom Of Fife (2011) and is back with a top quartet, including three with previous Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival form, in 2015.

Making up his charge on Saturday are Queensland Derby winner Hawkspur (barrier three) to be ridden by recent Sydney Cup – All Aged Stakes winning hoop Jim Cassidy, Underwood Stakes winner last year Foreteller (barrier 11), Kingston Town Classic champ Moriarty (barrier 10) and veteran nine-year-old I’m Imposing (barrier 14) who is the only one of the stablemates making his Queensland debut on the weekend.

Other headline Hollindale Stakes runners this year include 2012 Melbourne Cup winner Green Moon, last start Mornington Cup winner Banca Mo drawn a treat in gate five and Silent Achiever out wide in 13 for jockey Kerrin McEvoy.

One of just two mares in the Hollindale Stakes field this year, the Roger James-trained Kiwi visitor Silent Achiever heads towards the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) next month like most of the Hollindale hopes where she’ll shoot for her fifth Group 1 win.

She took out the Ranvet Stakes – The BMW double in Sydney last autumn and was last seen running sixth when defending her title in the latter on March 28 at Rosehill.

The six-year-old daughter of O’Reilly was impressive in her Saturday trackwork in Queensland however and is tipped to improve over a little less distance this weekend when running in the Sunshine State for the first time.

The four emergencies meanwhile are also classy types that are now sweating on an early scratching to make the 14-starter line-up in the Hollindale including last Saturday’s JRA Plate runner-up Leebaz for Team Hawkes and the Gai Waterhouse-trained Group 3 Neville Sellwood Stakes winner Pornichet.
