A particularly talented field of eleven has been confirmed to line up for the featured Group 2 Wimmers Soft Drinks A.D. Hollindale Stakes (1800m) on the Gold Coast this weekend, highlighted by several previous winners at the highest level of Australian racing.
Confirmed to contest her final racing preparation over the 2014 Queensland winter, trainer Guy Walter has accepted a position for Streama in the final field for the 2014 Hollindale Stakes.
A noted performer over each of her six racing preparations to date, Streama has claimed an impressive eight wins and 13 places from 32 competitive starts, including three major victories at Group 1 level.
Impressive over four starts in her maiden preparation at the beginning of 2011, the Stratum mare returned to racing in impeccable form over spring of the same year; finishing third in the Group 3 Shadow Stakes (1200m) first-up before claiming three back-to-back victories including the Group 1 Coolmore Flight Stakes (1600m).
Continuing to perform to a high standard over the 2012 racing calendar, Streama arguably hit career best form over an impressive 2013; finishing outside the places just twice in 10 appearances and winning the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) most notably.
While yet to register a race win over five starts this time in, the mare out of Pensiamo has sprinted well to finish in contention more often than not, and is a great chance in the Wimmer Soft Drinks A.D. Hollindale Stakes this weekend from the ideal barrier 4.
Also confirmed in the final field for the 2014 Hollindale Stakes is talented Bart and James Cummings-trained gelding Precedence.
A veteran of Australian racing, Precedence has claimed ten wins and eight places from 56 race starts, and will line up for this weekend’s Gold Coast feature as without doubt the most experienced runner in the pack.
Yet to appear on track in 2014, Precedence contested a typically consistent five race preparation over the spring of 2013; Claiming the Group 2 International Cup (2500m) and Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m) most notably.
A consistent performer in the Melbourne Cup (3200m) in his earlier racing seasons, Team Cummings are confident the class and experience of the Zabeel gelding will go a long way this weekend, who will leave from barrier 7.
Winner of the Listed Golden Mile during this season’s Bendigo racing carnival, Fat Al will have to overcome the slightly wide barrier 8 if to register an eighth career victory in the 2014 Hollindale Stakes.
Returning to racing this year with a strong turn of foot to finish third in the Group 3 TAB Rewards Stakes (1400m) prior to the Golden Mile, Fat Al appeared to be building towards a standout season of racing, but has been unable to match the pace and heavy going of his last two appearances; finishing twelfth in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1600m) and fifteenth in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) most recently.
Confirmed to be partnered by experienced Queensland jockey Chris Munce this weekend, trainer Peter Moody is confident of a far-more polished run from the Al Maher gelding on the firm Gold Coast surface.
Confirmed to make a first-up appearance on Australian shores, talented Kiwi raider Military Move has been confirmed for a long 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival and is offered a great chance of kicking off his campaign in style this weekend, allocated the ideal barrier 5 for the 2014 Hollindale Stakes.
