Jockey Larry Cassidy is confident that his mount, Danleigh, can defy his age when he lines up for the Group 2 AD Hollindale Stakes this Saturday May 4, 2013, at the Gold Coast.
Danleigh, who is a rising ten-year-old, will be looking to win his first race of the year in the 2013 AD Hollindale Stakes.
The Mujahid gelding finished fifth in his most recent start in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile at Royal Randwick Racecourse.
Cassidy believes that Danleigh is more than capable of taking out the race for trainer Chris Waller despite it being his first stint beyond 1,600 metres.
“He’s proven himself time and time again in weight-for-age races and his last couple of runs have been really good in much harder races than this,” Cassidy said.
“The Waller stable is flying and I think this horse is a genuine winning chance.
“He’s beaten better horses than what he’s facing on Saturday and apart from Chris’s other runner (Foreteller) and Peter Moody’s mare (Lights Of Heaven) it’s not a strong field.”
The jockey’s only issue is with the wide barrier, having drawn gate 12 of 13 runners.
“I know he likes to find his feet but it’s just a shame he didn’t draw a better alley,” he said.
“It means I’ll probably have to get back a bit further than I would have if I’d been able to draw two or three.”
Danleigh has won 10 of his 61 race starts and has earned more than $2.55 million in prize money during his horse racing career.
