While Melbourne and Sydney are alive with their respective Autumn Racing Carnivals, Queensland is gearing up to host its own illustrious Brisbane Winter Carnival.
The highlight of horse racing during the winter months is the Carnival, and the second race day of the meet is the Hollindale Stakes Day, which will take place this year on the 8th of May.
Headlined by the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m), the beautifully located Gold Coast Racecourse is host to the feature day.
The Group 2 race draws in horses three years and older to compete over the 1,800 metre staying distance.
The Group 2 race draws in horses three years and older to compete over the 1,800 metre staying distance, under weight-for-age conditions to get a share in the $300,000 purse.
One possible starter for the race is Rags to Riches. Trained by Liam Birchley, the local gelding finished last in the 2009 Hollindale Stakes, and if he does start will certainly look to better his record.
Also taking place at the Gold Coast Racecourse on the 8th of May will be the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m).
